It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Cornish Christmas

Blimey, where did 2018 go?!  Yuletide is upon us already.  Seems like only last week we were putting the tree out in the garden to slowly turn brown.  Oh well.  Deck the halls and help support local businesses and charities this Christmas! Here’s seven of the best upcoming festive events and markets in Cornwall this year.

The Cornwall Hospice Care Santa Series of fun runs and a Fun Cycle is open for participants! Or come along to support the runners and riders, and help raise money for a great cause. Click on the link below to find out more. We hope to see you soon.

With Santa’s Grotto, a Christmas market and a Live Nativity (hopefully not including the actual giving birth bit) among the things to do in Falmouth at Christmas, as well as their regular Weekly and Farmers’ Markets, you’re certain to find the gift for that relative who’s a nightmare to buy presents for!

Santas on the Run for the Children’s Hospice South West will be returning to the Eden Project on Sunday 9 December 2018! Run, jog, skip or walk your way around our festive fun 2k course.

Join us in our event village from 9.30am (the race will begin at 2.00pm) to make the most of the Christmas festivities before you run.  Face painters, tombolas, entertainment and music will welcome you and get you in the Christmas mood. There will be food and refreshments available to fuel you so don’t forget to bring some festive gold coins to spend! Our volunteer photographers will be on hand to capture all the fun of the day.  The sponsorship you raise for taking part in Santas on the Run will be a huge Christmas gift to our families and as a thank you for your hard work, they’ll be giving prizes for your efforts, so please get fundraising!

Your event registration fee also covers the cost of entry into the Eden Project which makes it a brilliant festive family day out.

If you long for the days when trains were nice, and you didn’t have to travel with your nose wedged in a stranger’s armpit, or take out a second mortgage to pay for a London to Penzance return, then you’ll love this. The Bodmin & Wenford Railway is a heritage railway and the only full-size railway in Cornwall where you can see and ride steam hauled trains. These operate on a 13 mile long railroad from Bodmin Parkway via Bodmin General to Boscarne Junction, enabling passengers to experience the charm and appeal of the ‘Steam Era’ while enjoying the sight of the Cornish countryside.

Enjoy a steam train ride and visit Santa in his grotto on the train during your journey. Free present from Santa for the children, mince pies and seasonal refreshments for adults. A wonderful way to start the Christmas Festivities!  Early reservations are highly recommended.

Can’t end the selection without giving the stunning Eden Project a mention.  On selected dates throughout December, The Eden Project introduces a new after-dark Christmas experience this year, alongside opportunities to meet Father Christmas and to go ice skating. Santa’s Grotto is definitely one to enjoy, with an opportunity to see “behind the scenes” – including elves’ beds and stockings ready for Christmas Day. The after-dark experience promises to be quite the spectacle, with giant projections, playful light sculptures and live music.
