Holidays in Cornwall – Watergate Bay

Padstow:

For the gourmets among you why not visit Padstow – home to Rick Stein’s famous restaurant. The harbour also has many pleasure craft as well as a small fishing fleet and a regular ferry to the village of Rock – known to locals as ‘Little Chelsea’ due to the influx of Londoners wanting to enjoy a fine dining experience. A few miles down the coast, past Trevose Head with its lighthouse constructed in the mid 19th century and past the famous Watergate Bay, you will find Jamie Oliver’s ‘Fifteen’ restaurant and training facility always popular on your Holidays in Cornwall. The food in both is amazing!

Newquay:

Holidays in Cornwall can be for the party animals among you, why not head for Newquay? The nightlife in Newquay is famous throughout Cornwall and indeed further afield. Now that there are direct flights from London it is not unusual to see groups of young people down for a weekend of surfing and partying. There are plenty of restaurants in Newquay to suit all budgets.

Newquay has miles of beautiful sandy beaches with numerous caves and rock pools to explore. If you tire of the beach, head back to the centre of town where you will find lots of old inns and restaurants where you can try the local ales and enjoy a pasty or some freshly caught local fish – delicious! Cottages in Newquay and Hotels in Newquay are of a high standard these days with great campsites and restaurants for all tastes.

St.Ives:

St. Ives is the place to go if you are looking for a bit of art and culture. St. Ives is home to both the Tate Cornwall and the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden and Museum. The town also hosts an Art and Literature Festival during September. Cottages in Cornwall are very popular no where more so than St Ives.

Bude:

Bude, on the north coast is one of the most popular places with surfers. Bude itself is a nice little seaside town situated alongside its 19th centrury canal (which was originally used to transport sand to nearby Launceston). The town overlooks the long sandy beach at Widemouth Bay but most surfers prefer to ride the waves at the nearby Crackington Haven. There are numerous surfing schools along this stretch of the coast – one of them even giving lessons in sign language!

St.Austell:

St. Austell on the south coast is the source of most of the local ales – a vital ingredient for any relaxing holiday! The St. Austell brewery was founded in 1851 and is now the largest brewery in Cornwall, serving up such gems as ‘Proper Job’, ‘Black Prince’, ‘Dartmoor’ and ‘Smugglers’ among others.
